SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for driving residential mortgage loan and consumer loan originations to meet established budget goals; overseeing the residential mortgage and consumer processings areas in order to ensure the prompt and effective delivery of residential mortgages, installment loans, and open-ended credit to retail customers within the bank's market area; developing and implementing strategies to achieve income, growth and quality goals; establishing annual budget; product development of mortgage and consumer  loan offerings; providing training and ongoing refreshers to mortgage originators, consumer lenders, loan processing personnel; ensuring the bank's compliance with established policies and procedures and outside regulatory requirements; overseeing the quality of the mortgage and consumer loan portfolios in order to minimize violations and/or exceptions; overseeing the production process between origination and processing areas; directly supervising assigned personnel; and, providing required reports.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Drives residential mortgage loan and consumer loan originations to meet established budget goals.

  1. Develops the annual budget for the residential mortgage and consumer lending areas; monitors adherence to budget parameters.
  2. Establishes individual goals for mortgage originators.
  3. Coaches and tracks progress of mortgage originators.
  4. Develops centers of influence for themselves and the origination team.
  5. Manages the product development of mortgage and consumer loan offerings; keeps abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape and customer demands in order to offer viable options and meaningful input into the process.
  6. Have an effective strategy for marketing of products and people to further our reputation and growth.
  7. Develops and provides training and ongoing refreshers to mortgage originators, consumer lenders, and processing personnel.

2. Oversees the residential mortgage and consumer lending processing areas to ensure the prompt and effective delivery of installment loans, residential mortgages and open-ended credit to retail customers within the bank's market area:

  1. Develops and recommends policies and procedures to satisfy quality, volume and earnings objectives in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  2. Exercises "exception" approval for direct and open-ended credits within designated loan authority.
  3. Ensures the efficient workflow of the department and the accuracy and efficiency of loan underwriting and processing activities.
  4. Coordinates retail loan product management issues with the Asset/Liability Management Committee, Compliance Committee, Data Operations, Marketing, Loan Servicing and other administrative or support units.

3. Ensures the bank's compliance with established policies and procedures as well as outside regulatory requirements:

  1. Maintains proficient knowledge of applicable compliance statutes, regulations and interpretations.
  2. Formulates and updates bank policies and procedures to maintain bank compliance with applicable compliance statutes, regulations and interpretations.
  3. Identifies necessary training for bank personnel on bank compliance policies and procedures.
  4. Implements procedures for compliance with new statutes and/or regulations.
  5. Manages and mitigates consumer loan violations and/or exceptions by lenders/originators, underwriters, and processors.
  6. Manages controls set in accordance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

4. Directly supervises assigned personnel:

  1. Organizes, schedules and distributes work among assigned personnel.
  2. Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
  3. Reviews and approves all performance appraisals in accordance with department procedures.
  4. Consults with Retail Services Manager and Human Resources on any matters concerning corrective action procedures relating to employees in direct area of supervision.
  5. Makes all employment decisions consistent with the principles of applicable laws prohibiting discrimination.
  6. Administers personnel policies and procedures as established by bank policy.

5. Communicates with the Retail Services Manager and interfaces with other department managers and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.

6. Provides reports to the Retail Services Manager, various committees and other groups as required throughout the bank.

7. Demonstrates a commitment to community involvement by participating in various community events. Serves in a leadership capacity to various civic, charitable and related organizations in order to increase the bank's visibility and strengthen relationships with the communities we serve.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A Bachelors Degree in a related field is preferred; or, equivalent combination of education and specialized banking experience related to community banking and/or residential mortgage and consumer lending.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of five (5) years' experience in related positions.  Previous experience with personal computers, Word and Excel software and office equipment is also required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Must possess broad residential mortgage and consumer lending experience, including lending management involving residential mortgages, installment loans, and open-ended credit; a working knowledge of banking operations which impact the mortgage and consumer sales function; and, skills/experience associated with implementing mortgage and consumer sales strategies and sales abilities.  Also required are strong communication skills; well-developed interpersonal and networking skills (with sales/service orientation); demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills (with the ability to effectively facilitate and manage change); and above-average organizational and analytical skills. Must have the ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with fellow bank employees and customers. Must be able to work at a pace that ensures that established deadlines are met.
