SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for evaluating and determining the credit risks of commercial credits of high dollar and complexity through detailed financial statement analysis, industry assessment, collateral valuation, cash flow analysis, and the ability to repay annual debt service; providing credit-related information regarding commercial credits to Relationship Managers in a timely manner consistent with the bank's prescribed loan policy; demonstrating a commitment to community involvement; attending training programs; and, performing clerical and miscellaneous duties

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Evaluates and determines the credit worthiness of prospective and current loan customers that includes but is not limited to the following:
    1. Completes credit analyses and supplies constructive credit-related assessments to Relationship Managers in a timely manner to satisfy loan committee schedule requirements for those credits of a higher dollar amount and more complex in nature.
    2. Assists in the structure of loan requests, where appropriate, to include suggestions on terms, conditions, collateral, and guarantors.
    3. Ensures that the analyses provided have assessed the strengths and risks associated with the credit and has consulted with the Relationship Manager on an appropriate credit rating.
    4. Provides analytical information and assistance to Relationship Managers to facilitate the Relationship Manager's understanding of the risks and strengths of the credit.
    5. Provides research conducted on loan customer's specific industry and benchmarks to Relationship Managers.
    6. Provides accurate accounting of loan customer's current banking relationship including loan exposure and deposit balances.
    7. Reviews and tests required loan covenants.
    8. Accompanies Relationship Manager on client visits as requested.
    9. Converses with accountants and/or loan customers to solidify corporate results and obtain additional information as needed.
    10. Demonstrates a leadership role within the division.
    11. Trains less experienced members of the department and new employees on the fundamentals of credit analysis as necessary.
  2. Complies with established operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the bank's adherence to outside regulatory requirements.
  3. Communicates with the Credit Department Manager and interfaces with other department managers and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.
  4. Provides periodic reports to the Credit Department Manager, various committees and other groups as required throughout the bank.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

A Bachelors degree with an emphasis in a accounting, finance or economics preferred; or equivalent combination of education and business or credit-related experience.  In depth knowledge of commercial banking practices as well as an understanding of business and personal financial statements and tax returns with associated schedules is also required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum six (6) to eight (8) years' experience in related positions is required.  Previous experience with personal computers and office equipment.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Must possess strong analytical thinking with the ability to identify cause and effect; strong oral and written communication skills; and, superior math skills with high degree of accuracy. Must have the ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with the public and other employees.  Must be able to work independently to organize work and determine priorities.  Must demonstrate proficiency in operating office equipment including personal computer, calculator and fax machine.  Proficiency or sufficient knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet software required.
