SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for developing and managing a business banking portfolio within a designated market area of the bank; fostering the bank's relationship management culture by actively pursuing new business banking opportunities from current and prospective customers; communicating with relationship management personnel with respect to sales objectives, sales performance and other factors; and, providing required information on sales and service activities.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Manages a business banking portfolio within one of the bank's designated market areas:

  • Jointly establishes quantitative sales objectives with assigned supervisor on an annual basis; this activity is to be integrated with the commercial services annual marketing/sales plan.
  • Approves within designated loan authority or recommends for approval business banking loan requests based on information obtained from loan applications, credit reports and supporting documentation within established Loan Policy Guidelines.

2. Fosters the bank's relationship management culture:

  • Works with the Business Banking Manager in the development and evaluation of existing and new business banking opportunities.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of bank operating policies and procedures that impact small business lending.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all bank retail and commercial products and services in order to ascertain customer needs and to sell or to make referrals in conjunction with such needs.
  • Solicits new business from present and prospective customers; maintains ongoing business relationships with present customers in order to take advantage of additional cross-selling opportunities.
  • Provides direct service to customers for business banking services and assists customers in obtaining specialized services from other areas of the bank.
  • Provides sales information on a timely basis in order that this information may be included as part of monthly and year-to-date sales performance reports.
  • Monitors individual sales performance versus objectives and discusses performance with assigned supervisor on a frequent basis.
  • Participates in relationship management meetings with community office personnel, as necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with COIs.

3. Complies with established operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the bank's adherence to outside regulatory requirements.

4. Communicates with the Business Banking Manager and interfaces with other department managers and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.

5. Provides periodic reports to the Business Banking Manager, various committees and other groups as required throughout the bank.

6. Participates in various community events in order to increase the bank's visibility and strengthen relationships with the communities we serve.

OTHER ASPECTS OF THE POSITION:

7. Keeps up-to-date with bank communication regarding policy changes, new products and initiatives, personnel changes, etc.

8. Identifies own strengths and developmental areas and sets goals as aligned with supervisor's expectations. Initiates coaching sessions with supervisor to share progress and receive feedback towards goals.

9. Follows corporate policy and upholds bank standards in accordance with the bank's Code of Business Ethics and Conduct.

10. Performs duties in a manner that ensures bank compliance with all applicable state and federal laws.

11. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

An Associates Degree in a related field is required; or, equivalent combination of education and specialized banking experience related to community banking and/or commercial or business banking lending.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of two (2) years' experience in related positions.  Previous experience with personal computers, Word and Excel software and office equipment is also required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Must possess a working knowledge of bank operating policies and procedures that impact the business banking lending sales function; and, skills/experience associated with implementing business banking lending sales strategies.  Also required are strong communication skills; well-developed business development and sales abilities (with sales/service orientation); and above-average organizational and analytical skills.  Must have the ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with fellow bank employees and customers.  Must be able to work at a pace that ensures that established deadlines are met.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to:

  • drive to various locations within designated market area;
  • lift items weighing a maximum of twenty pounds;
  • move freely from one office location to another;
  • use fine motor movements when entering data on the computer keyboard and using the calculator;
  • express or exchange ideas through verbal communication;
  • receive detailed information through oral or written communication;
  • see clearly when driving and performing work duties;
  • stretch and bend when performing work duties; and,
  • write legibly.
